The EOSC Federation

The European Open Science Cloud is being built as a federation of national and thematic nodes; Slovakia is one of the candidate nodes.

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a multi-disciplinary environment where researchers can publish, find and re-use data, tools and services. Rather than one central platform, it is built as the EOSC Federation – a network of nodes.

Nodes

EU Node
The reference node provided by the European Commission, offering core services (identity, file sharing, notebooks, virtual machines, large file transfer) and the reference implementation of the federating capabilities.
National nodes
Country entry points, such as EOSC Node Slovakia, that connect national research systems, repositories and services.
Thematic nodes
Nodes of research communities and infrastructures (for example photon and neutron science or the digital twin of the ocean).

Nodes are connected through shared federating capabilities: authentication and authorisation (AAI), resource and service catalogues, monitoring, helpdesk and common metadata standards. The Slovak building blocks – catalogue, monitoring, helpdesk and AAI – implement exactly these capabilities.

Slovakia in the Federation

EOSC Node Slovakia is a candidate node in the build-up phase, operated by CVTI SR. It has signed the Federation memorandum of understanding, demonstrated cross-node use cases (for example the Slovak–Polish federated pathogen analysis) and is working towards enrolment and full production.

The list of all nodes and their profiles is published by the EOSC Association at eosc.eu/building-the-eosc-federation .
