Pilot use cases

The scientific use cases that drive the technical integration of the node: AMR, MCVAL, RETROCHANGE and the SDGaaS concept.

Federated pathogen analysis (AMR)

The leading use case, related to antimicrobial resistance research. A staged approach: technical feasibility on public datasets in a Slovak–Polish pilot, then integration of private data, then adoption by public health for real-time pathogen monitoring. The federated approach keeps sensitive data under local control – computation runs on the data providers' servers and only processed results are shared. A Slovak Onedata provider was interconnected with Onedata in EOSC Node Poland, and the analysis workflows (AMR Watch, cgMLST outbreaks, respiratory, COVID lineage, wastewater) are published as open source.

Contribution to MCVAL

Participation in the multicentric validation of AI-based evaluation of prostate cancer screening images (MCVAL by BBMRI). The node collects and processes whole-slide screening images from Slovak sources, aggregates datasets and builds pipelines for sharing with the RationAI model and distributing results to medical evaluators, in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University.

RETROCHANGE

Retrospective forest and landscape change analysis from historical satellite imagery by the Technical University of Zvolen: an EOSC-ready package of declassified CORONA/HEXAGON-era imagery of Slovakia (about 1960–1985), processed into analysis-ready geospatial products and demonstrated through reproducible Jupyter workflows. Portal: gis.tuzvo.sk/retrochange .

Federated SDGaaS (concept)

Synthetic datasets generation as a service – an idea for future use: when no suitable dataset exists, generate a synthetic one within EOSC. Currently at the concept stage.

Prototype service entries for these use cases are registered in the service catalogue at sc.eosc.sk.
